There really isn't much to say, unfortunately. The investigation was supposed to have concluded a month and a half ago, but it's still ongoing, and the school year has concluded. The next board meeting is in early June, so we hope that something fruitful comes from that. Many people predicted that this process would be delayed into the summer so that the heat would die down, but I'm hoping that the reason for the delay is because of attention to detail and not for political reasons.

We're still staying in the loop and will seek answers as aggressively as possible. Thanks again for interest and prayers...

Statement from Friends of NWC, Posted 04-13-2009

The Friends of Northwestern appeal to the Board of Trustees to release to the entire Northwestern community the complete report of the Special Master investigating the allegations against the Administration. We also urge the release of the report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Theological Drift.

The reports were due for presentation to the Board by the end of March. We look forward to knowing the truth about the students' contentions, as well as the concerns expressed by some faculty about doctrinal drift.

We commend the Board for commissioning both investigations. We respect the need for the Board to plan its response and encourage the Board to take the time it needs to respond appropriately, with full disclosure of the findings of both investigations.

The public release of the full reports will disclose the facts as the Special Master and the Theological Drift Committee see  them. Full disclosure will have several positive results:
  • The transparency will help restore the credibility of Northwestern's leadership.
  • A release of all findings will eliminate the appearance that someone is hiding wrongful actions.
  • It will lay a solid foundation for whatever outcome is appropriate, whether exoneration, discipline or dismissal.
What's most important is that the facts as discovered be known to everyone. Love can then respond in a Christ-like manner to all involved. The future of Northwestern's ministry is too important to be sacrificed to expediency. Confidence in leadership can justly be re-established when there is unfettered loyalty to truth spoken in the humility and grace of love.
